Episode 317: New York Comic Con 2011 Coverage

New York Comic Con is one of the fastest growing sci-fi and comic conventions in the country. Run by ReedPop, the convention organizers behind Chicago’s C2E2 and Star Wars Celebrations 5 and 6, this year they attracted a major Star Wars presence, with Hasbro making their first official New York Comic Con appearance, as well as Hallmark who brought along another Keepsake Ornament exclusive!
On this week’s Star Wars Action News podcast, Marjorie and Arnie cover all the Star Wars collecting news from the convention. First, they give their impressions on Hasbro’s showings, with the new lines Movie Heroes and Fighter Pods, returning line Titaniums, plus a Star Wars Hasbro line that is about to become one with The Force… They also cover the Star Wars collectibles panel hosted by Lucasfilm’s Chris Spitale with new product reveals from Think Geek and FunKo. We talk to Robert Lyle Paske from Kotobukiya about their newly shown paint apps on their Art FX statues and the art of the Jaina Solo Bishoujo statue, as well as their line of men’s items available only overseas. And finally, we talk to Christine from Hallmark about next year’s Keepsake ornaments, as well as some new gift items that can go under your Christmas tree…or keep people away from it! Christine joins us with an exclusive reveal of two new Hallmark items on this podcast!
Also at New York Comic Con, Sar Wars author J.W. Rinzler was there discussing the Star Wars Blueprints book. He and Leslie Dilley, the Academy Award winning Art Director on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, sit down with Arnie to discuss this book. Arnie also talks to Dan Wallace about the new release of his in-universe guide Star Wars: The Jedi Path as well as the upcoming Star Wars: Book of Sith!
